‘What is the BEST diet?’

New Body Osteopathy Nutrition

THE QUESTION?

As a dietitian working in both the NHS and private setting, people often ask me ‘which diet do you recommend?’ or ‘what is the best diet for weight loss?’ or ‘what foods should I be really eating?’.

THE ANSWER

Unfortunately, I’m unable to give a quick answer as quite frankly it really depends on a lot of things. For example, what are you trying to achieve, what are your likes and dislikes, what is your budget, where do you shop, your cooking skills, time constraints and other life commitments? The decisions we make around eating are often complicated too and are usually influenced by a lifetime of different habits, emotions and traditions. These are just a few of the reasons why it is difficult to come up with a quick answer as the ‘best diet’ is the one that suits you the most, is sustainable and enjoyable whilst meeting your health needs as best it can!

ARE YOU READY?

It also depends on how ready someone feels to start making changes to the way they eat and drink or how they think about food. Do the advantages of making changes to your lifestyle (such as greater energy levels, improved body confidence, better health etc.) outweigh the disadvantages of making changes (such as meal times might involve some planning ahead, you might not be able to eat some of the foods you enjoy as often as you used to, it might be difficult)?   Confidence is important too. How confident you feel about making changes plays a big part in how successful you will be in reaching your goals. Finding out what you think you would need to happen to improve your confidence in making certain changes can be a really helpful process.

WORK WITH A PROFESSIONAL

Working with a Registered Dietitian can be helpful to explore the barriers or challenges you might face when trying to reach a particular dietary, sporting or health goal. You can work together to explore what works and what doesn’t work for you as well as coming up with some realistic and sustainable changes that will last a lifetime.

At our New Body Osteopathy clinics in the City and Canary Wharf we offer a healthy eating and lifestyle package designed to support clients in reaching their individual goals. It includes an initial assessment as well as four follow up sessions that can be spread out over a number of weeks or months (depending on what suits you) with email support outside of clinic time to support you with your individualised plan.  Interested?
